Partridge departs for pro opportunity

Lewis Partridge has left the Wellington Phoenix academy to sign his first professional contract with South Island United.

The flying fullback established himself as a key part of the men’s reserves side after joining the academy in 2021, turning out over 50 times across both the Central and National League.

Partridge, 20, also featured in a famous win over Wrexham in July’s friendly match, and has represented New Zealand at the U-20 level.

He now returns home to Christchurch, where he played his junior football, and will compete in the newly formed OFC Pro League.

“Lewis has contributed significantly to the academy over his time here,” Wellington Phoenix men’s reserves head coach Chris Greenacre said.

“He has solidified his spot in the right back position and also represented New Zealand in the U-20 World Cup qualifiers in 2024, scoring a goal.

“He was also a key member of our pre-season success over Wrexham.

“‘Fridge’, as he is affectionately known, is a very popular player within the academy and we wish him every success in his OFC Pro League journey.”
