The Education Pathway at Wellington Phoenix Academy Includes:

New Zealand Performance academy aotearoa (NZPAA)

For students Y11-13 NZPAA is New Zealand’s first dedicated sports school, created to remove the long‑standing trade‑off between academic achievement and athletic development. Offering a rigorous yet flexible curriculum, NZPAA supports both educational excellence and high‑performance sport, ensuring students can thrive in all aspects of their growth. Based at the NZ Campus of Innovation and Sport (NZCIS) in Upper Hutt, the academy provides state‑of‑the‑art facilities, elite coaching, and a holistic support system focused on leadership, wellbeing, and resilience. With NCEA qualifications embedded alongside sporting development and personal character growth, NZPAA prepares students not only for competitive sport, but for life—guided by a passionate board and a commitment to student‑centred progress across multiple codes.

The programme is delivered in partnership with the Wellington Phoenix Academy, giving learners access to elite‑level coaching, professional training environments, and development standards aligned with a recognised professional pathway. Experienced academy coaches lead high‑quality, structured on‑field sessions that strengthen technical ability, game intelligence, and positional understanding. TE KURA

For students in Years 9–13, the Wellington Phoenix Academy provides access to online learning through Te Kura – The Correspondence School, New Zealand’s largest online education provider.

We support players with:

Te Kura Enrolment: Players aged 16 and over are eligible to enrol under the Young Adult gateway. Players under 16 may be able to enrol under the ‘Full-time – Exceptional Arts or Sports Performance’ gateway. This a support letter from New Zealand Football alongside their application. Refer here for more information on who can enrol with Te Kura.
Academy class allocation: Students are placed into dedicated Academy classes to support both their football development and academic success.
Monitored school work: Academy staff regularly track and support students to ensure they stay on track with their academic progress.

AUT DIPLOMA

In collaboration with Auckland University of Technology (AUT), a top-ranked university for sports science in New Zealand, we provide:

Customised Lectures and Workshops: Designed to fit into academy training schedules.
Diploma in Sport and Recreation: A pathway to higher education and career opportunities in sports science.

US scholarship opportunities

There are opportunities for Academy athletes to pursue academic and athletic excellence in the United States. We provide guidance and support to help athletes obtain scholarships at US colleges and universities.

ACCOMMODATION OPTION

In partnership with Griffin Lodge at NZCIS (New Zealand Campus of Innovation & Sport), Wellington Phoenix Academy offers promising footballers from across New Zealand the opportunity to board at the world-class NZCIS campus.
