The Wellington Phoenix academy is congratulating Sienna Candy on her selection in the Māori women’s national football team.
The young midfielder has been named in the 17-strong squad representing Ngā Whanapoikiri Pakeke Wāhine Mauri for their upcoming matches in Fiji.
Candy, 16, joined the academy in 2021 and has played for the women’s reserves in the past two National League seasons.
She has recently been training with the Phoenix first team.
Former Phoenix midfielder Te Reremoana Walker, a member of the club’s inaugural women’s team, has also been selected.
They will go into camp with the Māori women’s national team in Auckland this Sunday before departing for Fiji next Wednesday.
The team fondly referred to as Mauri will play matches against Fiji women’s national team and Ba FC, Fiji’s top club side.
